Even if you use lime cordial in mixed drinks, you might not know it by that name. Manufacturers typically label their bottles as sweetened lime juice in the U.S., but in other countries, the labels might say lime cordial. Regardless of the name, this lime syrup is a versatile ingredient you can make at home for both cocktails and nonalcoholic drinks.
Using Lime Cordial

Although cordials sometimes refer to sweet liqueurs, lime cordial is a nonalcoholic, sweet lime flavoring for beverages. You can mix lime cordial with sparkling water for a refreshing homemade soda. Lime cordial is also an ingredient in cocktails, including gimlets.
Homemade Lime Cordial

To make your own lime cordial, combine 2 parts sugar with 1 part water in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a simmer to dissolve the sugar. Stir in 1 part fresh lime juice, along with the zest from the limes. Cool the mixture and refrigerate it overnight to develop the lime flavor. Strain the cordial through a sieve before using it.
