It is frustrating to put on a clean pair of polyester pants, only to find the fabric is sticking together and to your legs. Static cling is the result of friction created between materials. It is common for static cling to occur in the winter when there is low humidity and when you dry your clothes in a dryer. Synthetic fabrics, such as polyester, are especially prone to static cling. Removing static cling from your polyester pants can be done even after the pants have already been washed and dried.
Lay your dry polyester pants on a flat surface. Take a metal hanger and unbend it so that it extends its full length.
Put the metal hanger inside of one pant leg. Run the hanger all along the inside of the pant leg, making sure to let the metal hanger come into contact with as much of the fabric as possible. Repeat this process on the other pant leg.
Moisten your legs with lotion before putting on your polyester pants. If any static is still present in the pants after using the metal hanger, moisturizing your skin will prevent the pants from clinging to your legs.
Put on your polyester pants. Dampen your hands slightly with water and brush all along the outside of the pant legs to further eliminate static cling.
