Store-bought hair dyes can include chemicals that could damage your hair. If you are looking to get a new look by dying your hair, you can avoid harsh chemicals and make the process less toxic. You may be surprised to know you can effectively dye your hair with items already in your kitchen.

Light Hair to Dark hair

Brew enough coffee to effectively allow you to rinse your hair in it two or three times. Use three times the amount of coffee grounds you would usually use for the amount of water.

Situate yourself over a bathtub or sink with a bucket placed into it. Pour cool coffee over your head and allow it to penetrate your hair for 1-2 minutes. Repeat this process two times.

Repeat the process once more for a final rinse and allow your hair to soak in the coffee for 15 minutes.

Dark Hair to Light hair

Mix thoroughly 1/4 cup of water and 1/4 cup of lemon juice. Work the lemon juice solution into your hair evenly across the top of your head. Cover part areas, hair lines and crown areas completely with a spray bottle.

Expose your hair to the sun for no more than one hour. Overexposure can result in hair damage from the same acids in the lemon allowing the color change to occur.

Repeat the process as many times as required to achieve the desired level of lightness. Wash and dry hair completely between attempts.
