Soap is used by many people to cleanse the skin, but for some it can be too harsh and can exacerbate irritating skin conditions such as acne, eczema or psoriasis. Luckily, the skin can be cleansed without soap. By using a few other natural cleansing methods you can clean your skin without causing further damage.
Cleanse the skin with oil. The ancients did not have soap like modern people do, so they used oils to cleanse the skin. Certain oils are very cleansing and purgative, which will help reduce acne breakouts and unclog the pores. Use 1/2 tsp. extra virgin olive oil and 1/4 tsp. castor oil, and massage them into the skin for five minutes. Focus on the areas where acne or clogged pores are the worst. Soak a washcloth in hot water and squeeze it out. Lay the cloth over the face, allowing the steam to penetrate the pores. After the cloth completely cools, wipe away the oils, which will contain the impurities that were in the pores. The skin will be deep-cleaned and pimple-free.
Cleanse the skin with baking soda. Baking soda is an alkaline substance that cleans the skin and removes dead skin cells without irritating or damaging it. Baking soda also kills off bacteria that contribute to acne and skin blemishes. You can use baking soda as a scrub or as a cleansing wash. To make a scrub, mix 1 tbsp. baking soda with 1 tsp. water until a soft mixture is formed. Massage this into the skin for 20 seconds and rinse with water. To make a wash, half-fill a clean spray bottle with water and add 1 tsp. baking soda. Spray the face well for 30 seconds, then rinse with water. The skin will be refreshed, invigorated and clean.
Cleanse the skin with oatmeal. Oatmeal will not only cleanse the skin thoroughly but will also moisturize it, eliminating the need for a lotion or cream. Oatmeal is a mild exfoliant, and can help buff away dead skin cells that could clog pores. Its absorbing abilities help bond to excess oils and impurities in the skin, effectively removing them without the need for abrasive scrubbing or harsh soaps. To cleanse with oatmeal, wet the skin well with warm to hot water and scoop up a handful of raw oats. Moisten the raw oats with water and massage them all over the face for one minute. Rinse the skin well. It will be soft, supple and cleansed naturally.
