Immediately after shaving is when irritation can occur. Irritation can take on the form of razor bumps or ingrown hairs. You can take certain precautions to help alleviate these problems.
Razor bumps are small red bumps on the skin where skin gets irritated when shaving.
Ingrown hairs are hairs that grow into the skin, instead of out of the skin.
Do not use drying soaps when shaving. This can lead to razor burn, especially on the bikini line and chin. Use a shaving gel or foam, instead. Always use a sharp razor.
When razor bumps or ingrown hairs occur, moisturize the entire area with lotion. This seals in moisture and begins the healing process. Don’t use a lotion with alcohol because it will sting the area.
Different Skin Types
Irritation can take on various forms, depending on what type of skin you have. People with sensitive skin are more apt to get a rash after shaving. Individuals with very dry or oily skin may have an increased problem with razor bumps or ingrown hairs after shaving.
