Cookies are often viewed as unhealthy treats because they can contain ingredients that are high in sugar and fat. Bananas and oats are both high in fiber, which makes them nutritious ingredients to include in your cookie recipes. These ingredients can also replace higher-fat ones that decrease the nutritional value of your dessert.
Banana Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Cookies
Dark chocolate chips are a more nutritious addition to your cookie recipe than milk chocolate chips because they are lower in fat and sugar and contain healthy antioxidants. Combine 1 1/4 cups of whole wheat flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 0.25 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in a bowl. In the bowl of an electric mixer, stir together 6 tablespoons of no sugar added applesauce, 1/4 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Add 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla and blend. Using the lowest speed, add the flour mixture and stir until well-combined. Add 1 cup of quick-cooking oats, 1/2 cup of dark chocolate chips and 2 ripe bananas. Stir slightly. Drop by tablespoons onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 16 to 18 minutes in an oven that has been preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Banana Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
Raisins are a fiber and potassium-rich addition to your cookie recipe. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Cream 2/3 cup of unsweetened applesauce with 1/3 cup of white sugar and 2/3 cup of light brown sugar. Add 2 eggs and 1 cup of mashed banana. In another bowl, sift 1 1/3 cups of whole wheat flour, 1/4 cup of powdered milk, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Add to the applesauce mixture and fold in 2 cups of oats and 1 cup of unsweetened raisins. Form into small balls and place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
Banana Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookies With Walnuts
Pumpkin will add taste and vitamin A to your cookies. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Cream 2/3 cup of unsweetened applesauce with 1/3 cup of white sugar and 2/3 cup of light brown sugar. Add 2 eggs and 1/2 cup of mashed banana and 1/2 cup of canned pumpkin. In another bowl, sift 1 1/3 cups of whole wheat flour, 1/4 cup of powdered milk, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Add to the applesauce mixture and fold in 2 cups of oats and 1 cup of chopped walnuts. Drop by teaspoons onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 13 to 16 minutes.
Crunchy Banana Pear Oatmeal Cookies
Banana chips will add flavor and crunch to your cookies. Look for banana chips that are low in fat to keep your cookies healthy. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. In a bowl, cream together 1 cup of sugar with 1 cup of pureed pears. Stir in 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. In a second bowl, sift together 2 cups of wheat flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of ground cloves and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Add to pear mixture and stir to combine. Add 3 mashed bananas, 2 cups of rolled oats and 1 cup of crushed banana chips. Use a tablespoon to drop onto greased baking sheets. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes.
