Watching your calories doesn't mean you can't indulge in treats once in a while. Moderation is the key when choosing snacks so that you can stay within your individualized daily calorie goals. Shipley Do-Nuts offers 63 varieties of doughnuts but says plain glazed is its best-seller. Shipley makes its doughnuts with wheat flour, vegetable shortening, sugar, eggs, milk and salt. By controlling your portion, you can indulge without adding too many excess calories to your diet.
Indulge Without Bulge
One Shipley glazed doughnut contains 217 calories, 100 of which come from fat. It contains 11 grams of total fat and 3 grams of saturated fat. When snacking, balance your calories and nutrients. Try dividing the doughnut into fourths and enjoying a piece along with some protein, such as a handful of nuts or plain, lowfat yogurt. This smaller doughnut portion contains 54 calories. A good size for a snack is under 100 calories. You can put the remainder of the doughnut away for another time or share with friends and co-workers.
