Various Preparation H products exist, including Preparation H suppositories, Preparation H ointment, maximum strength pain relief cream, anti-itch hydrocortisone cream, cooling gel and Preparation H medicated portable wipes. Each product has its intended use, but all provide soothing relief for those suffering from hemorrhoids. Over the years, however, Preparation H has been used in other ways and for other purposes, including reducing cellulite.
About Cellulite
Cellulite is a beauty issue that plagues both men and women, large and thin. Physiologically speaking, cellulite is a fat that deposits in packages underneath the surface of the skin. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, cellulite most often occurs on the buttocks, thighs and hips and has a dimpled, "cottage cheese" appearance. Cellulite is harmless, but is considered aesthetically displeasing.
Preparation H for Cellulite
When applied directly to the skin, Preparation H can reduce the appearance of cellulite. Prep-H.com states that the product has even been used on the thighs of beauty contestants competing for the title of Miss USA. It works by temporarily constricting and tightening the skin and muscles where applied. Results typically last no more than 24 hours.
Application
Clean the affected area with soap and water and gently pat dry. Squeeze out a dime-size amount of Preparation H ointment or cream onto the area and massage it into the skin using a circular motion. Continue massaging until the Preparation H dissolves into the skin completely. Wait 5 to 10 minutes before redressing.
Other Uses
In addition to treating hemorrhoids and concealing cellulite, Preparation H products are used to treat other issues, as well. For example, body builders and beauty pageant contestants use Preparation H ointment before performances to tighten muscles and wrinkles around the eye. And, according to Prep-H.com, models and makeup artists use Preparation H to smooth the skin on their faces.
Considerations
Preparation H is only a temporary solution for cellulite and may not work for some people. For those who experience positive results, it should last between 12 to 24 hours. Speak to your doctor about using Preparation H for off-label uses before doing so. Preparation H works by constricting blood vessels and should be used sparingly, says the official Preparation H website.
