There is a sizable market for human hair, which is bought and turned into human hair wigs for cancer patients or other people in need of wigs. Most wig manufacturers only use hair grown under specific, controlled conditions. The hair must be kept covered at all times and never subjected to dying, processing or other chemical treatments.

Hairwork

Hairwork (hairwork.com) is an online site that sells a variety of different products, including human hair. It also sells hair-related products and horse hair. Ads cost $20 and run for a month. Sellers post photographs of their hair and provide details such as length, thickness, whether dyed or natural, texture and care regimen.

Buy and Sell Hair

Buy and Sell Hair (buyandsellhair.com) is an online site that allows users to post ads to sell their hair. Ads cost $10 to $20, depending on the length of time the ad will run, and reach a large number of potential buyers, according to the website.

Classifieds

Buy a local classified ad. Call a local or regional newspaper and ask about rates for posting an ad in the classifieds section. Posting an ad on a buying/selling site such as eBay is another option.

Donate

If you can't find a buyer for your hair, a number of charitable organizations seek hair donors, such as Locks of Love or Wigs for Kids. These organizations take donated hair and make it into wigs for people who are bald because of cancer treatment, disease or other reasons. Hair must be at least 10 inches long and cannot be bleached.
