Items you will need

  • Milk
  • Blender
  • Ice cream
  • Rubber spatula

A milk shake is a cold, sweet drink made from ice cream and milk. Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry are the most common shake flavors, although any type of ice cream can be used. Use this easy method to make a shake using a blender and your favorite ice cream flavor.

Step 1

Pour ¾ cup of milk into the blender container. Add one cup ice cream to the milk, and place the lid on the blender.

Step 2

Blend the milk and ice cream on low speed for 30 to 45 seconds, or until smooth.

Step 3

Scrape the sides of the container with a rubber spatula to ensure that there is no ice cream that isn't being mixed. Continue blending until you have a smooth, shake-like consistency.

Step 4

Add an additional cup of ice cream to the blender. Cover and blend until smooth. Scrape the sides with the rubber spatula, as needed.

Step 5

Pour the shake into glasses. This recipe yields approximately two (8 oz.) servings.

  • If you like your shake thicker, add more ice cream. For a thinner shake, add more milk.

Garnish with whipped cream, chocolate sauce or fresh fruit.

To make a banana shake, use the directions above but add half a banana with each cup of ice cream, or one whole banana total.

To make a peanut butter shake, add 2 tbsp. of peanut butter to the mixture. Make malted shakes by adding 2 tbsp. of malted milk powder.

  • Make sure that the blender is turned off before scraping the sides with the rubber spatula. Never place anything inside a blender, or remove the lid, while it is blending. The blades are sharp and can cause injury.
