A good quality panama jack hat makes a great fashion statement and can last for years if it is cared for in the proper manner. Genuine panama hats are made of toquilla straw through an Ecuadorian weaving process that is very labor-intensive. Make sure you are treating your panama hat with the special care it deserves by cleaning it in the right manner.
To remove marks, use warm, soapy water and a nail brush. Just a little soap will do and you should only rub gently with the nail brush.
Heat some water in a tea kettle until it is steaming.
Hold your panama hat in the line of steam from the kettle and rotate it so the steam touches all surfaces.
With your bristled brush, gently brush the hat on all surfaces.
Dry immediately with an absorbent cloth.
