If you're having an open house party, you'll want to serve the right kind of food. You don't have to spend weeks slaving over a hot stove to have some great party food. And you don't have to spend a fortune either. There are plenty of simple recipes you can make and other foods that you can buy for your open house party.
Purchased Foods
There are great party foods that you can buy. Many of these foods are frozen and either need to be thawed or cooked. You can buy these ahead of time and store them in your freezer.
To get the best price on these foods you can buy them from a local warehouse club such as BJ's, Sam's Club or Costco. However, most warehouse clubs require that you become a member before you can make a purchase.
Some examples of good party foods that you can purchase are quiche, egg rolls, cheesecake bites, cookies, muffins, pastries, snack mixes, veggie trays, or fruit trays. There are many more choices; it depends on what you want to serve and what your club has to offer.
Making Food
You still may want to make some foods for your party. There are some simple recipes that you can make that will be a great addition to your party. You can make anything from ordinary to extraordinary, it depends on your style and how much you want to spend.
Stuffed Mushrooms
You can make stuffed mushrooms in just a few minutes. For this recipe you'll need 32 mushroom caps, 2 cups of melted butter, four cloves of garlic, minced, 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese, 1/2 cup of chicken broth, 4 tsps. of soy sauce, 1 1/3 cups of crushed wheat crackers and 4 tsps. of dried parsley.
Turn the oven to broil before you start. Dip the mushroom caps in the butter and place them on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Mix the remaining ingredients, except the crackers. After those ingredients are thoroughly mixed, add in the cracker crumbs. Use a spoon to put this mixture into the mushroom caps. Broil the mushrooms for five minutes, or until the tops are golden.
Pigs in a Blanket
These are a traditional party food that are easy to make. Simply get a package of cocktail franks and two cans of crescent rolls. You can also add shredded cheese, if you desire.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Unroll your crescent dough and cut each strip into three long pieces. You can sprinkle cheese on the dough then roll it around the cocktail frank. Make sure the dough wraps all the way around so that it is overlapping. This will ensure that your pigs in a blanket stay together.
Put these on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake them for 10 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown. You may need to adjust the time and temperature according to your oven.
Open house parties don't normally need to have a main course, so you should be fine if you provide plenty of finger foods. Also be sure to provide drinks of some sort. You can make tea, lemonade or punch. You could also provide soft drinks and water.
