A backyard barbecue just wouldn't be the same without juicy bratwursts. You can find a bewildering array of bratwurst at your local supermarket, from spicy Italian bratwurst to beer bratwurst. One variety that you may not have tried is a cheddar brat. Cheddar bratwursts have the cheese inside, forming a juicy, cheesy filling. They do require more supervision than a bratwurst that does not contain cheese, because they can overcook and even explode from the steam created by the hot cheese, and lose the cheesy filling.
Grilled
Heat the grill to medium-low, or 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
Place the bratwursts on the counter to warm to room temperature. If you place cold cheddar bratwursts on the grill, the cheese will heat faster than the meat and spill out of the bratwurst.
Place the bratwursts on the grill and heat them, uncovered, for 25 to 30 minutes. Turn the bratwursts occasionally to cook them evenly. When the bratwursts are ready they will be golden brown.
Remove the bratwursts from the grill with tongs, and allow them to cool for five minutes before you serve them. The cheese will be very hot and will run out of the bratwurst if they does not rest.
Boiled
Place the bratwursts on the counter to warm to room temperature.
Pour 1/2 cup of water into the skillet, and heat it over medium heat.
Place the cheddar bratwurst in the pan and cook them for 10 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time.
Remove the bratwursts from the skillet, and allow them to cool for five minutes before you serve them.
Broiled
Place the bratwursts on the counter to warm to room temperature.
Preheat your oven to broil.
Place the bratwurst on the broiler pan. Put the broiler pan in the oven, and broil the brats for 15 to 20 minutes, turning once.
Remove the bratwursts from the grill, and allow them to cool for five minutes before you serve them.

- Check on the cheddar bratwurst frequently throughout the cooking process. If you see the cheese beginning to spill out of the bratwurst, remove it from the heat source immediately. The sausage is ready.
