High-waisted jean shorts are a flattering item with many matching possibilities.

Seventies-inspired high-waisted jean shorts are not just flattering, though they do hug your waist and elongate your legs. They are also beyond versatile. Depending on what you pair them with, they are perfect for a day at the beach, a lunch date, a night on the town or a barbecue with friends. Whether you dress them up or keep them casual, these hip versions of "mom jeans" can be your closet’s most prized possession. Lucky for you, almost everything matches them. Cute looks are right at your fingertips -- you don’t even need to shop for any new items.

High-waisted jean shorts accentuate a woman’s curves. The hourglass figure was the inspiration behind these vintage pieces, so your top should enhance that shape. Luckily, denim is a material that matches every color and pattern. All you need to focus on is the cut. A crop top is a great way to show off a sliver of your toned tummy. Go dark with little volume on your top if you have a broader top half or loose to balance out a pear-shaped figure. Fitted tanks, satin blouses, and lightweight cotton tees are all cute match-ups. Always remember the key instruction: tuck it in.

A great way to add a stylish slimming effect to your already waist-minimizing shorts is by adding a belt. A skinny patent leather belt in a solid or pattern can bump most outfits up a notch. Long necklaces with vintage charms are also a good way to glam up your shorts. Bangles, drop earrings and chunky rings always add spice to denim. The more the merrier, so pile them up. When it’s colder out and you still want to show off your legs, high-waisted jean shorts look extra cute with wool scarves and beanies. Mix and match your accessories for a funky treasure-chest-find-inspired look.

Tights and Socks

If you’re reluctant to show too much skin or you want a dressier panache, tights are a great choice. You still get the long-leg effect while being a little more covered up. Black tights, an item every girl has in her closet, are the safest way to doll up your shorts. Patterned tights like florals, hearts or stripes take a creative spin on the regular look and add a touch of flare. Try torn tights for an edgier look, or knee-high stockings or socks for a sassier style. Sheer skin-colored tights are a sexy way to smooth out your skin and maintain a barelegged look. Socks and tights are also a great way to keep warm during colder seasons.

Shoes can be the determining factor in how you style your high-waisted-shorts look. A pair of rough and rugged combat boots can compliment a softer look on top like a sweater. Low- or high-rise sneakers are always a good go-to for everyday comfort. Sandals are a fun summery match for a casual look. But if you really want to be a knock-out for the night, strap on a pair of high heels and strut your long legs around town.
