Whether you have had your eye on a particular man for some time or you want to improve your social skills when you meet someone you are attracted to, all you need are a few simple tricks to make a good impression. Remember, be yourself, and don't come on too strong. Subtlety and consistency are key.
Use Body Language
Use positive body language to let a man know you like him. Smile, move toward him and make light physical contact like placing your hand on his arm during conversation or lightly brush your foot against his leg under the table. Playing with your hair or jewelry are also signs of positive body language. These signals tell a man that you are happy and open to romance, says psychologist Jeremy Nicholson in the article, "Reading Basic Body Language for Dating and Persuasion Success," on "Psychology Today."
Speak With Your Eyes
Using only your eyes, you can communicate a lot to a man you like and are attracted to. Maintain good eye contact, but then let your gaze drop briefly. Use a technique known as "the flick," as body language expert Judi James suggests to Fran Creffield in her article, "5 Body Language Signals and What They Mean," for "eHarmony." Look into a man's eyes, then let your eyes drift to his mouth and then back to his eyes. Combine this with a bashful smile, and he'll be pretty certain that you're interested in him.
Boost His Ego
Paying a man a compliment is one of the best ways to let him know you like him. For it to have the desired effect, however, make sure the compliment is the right kind of compliment. A compliment should be appropriate, genuine and specific, advises psychologist Susan Krauss Whitbourne in the article, "9 Types of Compliments and Why They Work (or Not)" on "Psychology Today." If he is a serious type, don't compliment him on his sense of humor. Highlight a man's talents, such as his business achievements or his athletic skills. Not only will it boost his confidence, it will demonstrate that you're interested in his life and his interests.
Take the Plunge
When you're talking to a man you like, casually ask him what he did last weekend. This shows him that you're interested in getting to know him. Suggest that you two do something similar next weekend. If this feels like too big a step or you're not sure how he feels about you, invite him to a party or get-together instead of a date, suggests Bethany Heitman in the article, "How to Ask a Guy Out," in "Cosmopolitan." Your invitation will let him know that you like him, which will give you the opportunity to get to know him better -- and hopefully, to secure that solo date.
