Baked garlic cloves make an excellent spread for crusty French or Italian bread or as a topping for a baked potato or integrated with mashed potatoes for a buttery, garlicky flavor. Elephant garlic is identical to regular garlic, but it is approximately three times larger than a normal garlic bulb. Elephant garlic can be baked like regular garlic and its larger size is more suitable for sharing.
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Cut 3/4 inch of the top off each of the garlic bulbs off so each garlic clove is exposed.
Place the garlic cloves in a loaf pan or a small baking pan. Pour the olive oil and water in the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle sea salt over the top of the cloves and oil.
Cover the pan with foil. Bake the garlic cloves for 60 minutes.
Remove the garlic from the oven and test them. When the garlic is ready, it will be tender and have the consistency of butter.
