Peeling Skin in Newborns

Newborns fresh from the womb often don't fit their parent's expectations, with their blotchy skin, swollen eyelids and lopsided or pointy heads. And then, just as your baby's skin starts looking more normal, it starts to fall off. Some babies skin cracks or peels more than others; babies born past their due date are particularly likely to look as if they're coming apart. While peeling skin is usually quite normal, ask your doctor if you have any concerns. Occasionally, peeling skin can indicate a more serious illness.

Why Peeling Occurs

Since babies spend 9 months immersed in fluid, it's not too surprising that they begin to peel once they dry out.
