Type of Socks for Pump Shoes

Not since the era of bobby socks and poodle skirts have socks with heels been as fashionable as they are now. Knee-high socks, thigh-highs, ankle socks and lace socks are all finding their way into some very feminine and fashion-forward looks. Pull on the right pair of socks with a stylish pump and a skirt, and you've got an outfit that's sure to turn some heads.

Knee-High Socks

Knee-high socks work better in the fall or winter when the weather is cool. A style with medium-thickness offers a bit of texture to your outfit, especially if you wear them with a suede pump. Try an A-line plaid wool skirt in an autumn color -- navy blue, berry red or a warm brown -- that comes just above the knee and a crisp white-button down with a pair of knee-high diamond rib black cotton blend socks and a pair of black suede pointy-toe pumps. Buy socks that are not too thick, or your pump will fit too small and make the sock scrunch into the toe-box in a peculiar way. Knee-high black fishnets are a bit naughty-looking if you wear them with a skirt above the knee and may be too distracting for work but are the right kind of playful for outside of the office with a pair of classic black pumps.

Ankle Socks

Ankle socks are the most commonly seen type of sock with heels in this sassy trend. Wear a pair of thin silk socks that complement the color of a fancy printed pump. If you're hourglass, rectangular or petite shaped and can pull off a thigh-high skirt, wear a colorful belted A-line minidress with a pair of nude ankle socks -- pushed down so they ruche around the ankle -- and a pair of pumps that complement the color of the dress. This dress style creates an hourglass shape for your figure. The short skirt and heel-sock combination will also draw plenty of attention to your legs. This look is a real head-turner. For a more conservative approach, wear thin ankle socks with a pump and a mid-calf length skirt. You are still on-trend, as well as within office dress code regulations.

Lace Socks

Lace knee-high or ankle socks make a delicate style statement and are a good sock to start with if you want to try this trend. Wear a black or brown lace anklet sock with a pair of cropped tweed trousers and a pump with an ankle strap for a subtle approach to this look. Once you're comfortable, go bigger and try a lace knee-high sock with a tailored shorts-suit and a pair of animal print or silver cap-toed pumps for a head to toe look that's right in style.

Thigh-High Socks

Thigh-high socks and pumps are a very sexy and highly-fashionable pair, but only work with short-shorts or mini-skirts. This is a hard look to pull off for many people, but if you have a thin or petite frame and are heading someplace that thigh-bearing outfits are appropriate -- by all means go for it! A monochromatic outfit of a long-sleeved, lace overlay minidress with matching thigh-high thin socks and a chunky-heel platform pump is an outfit no one will forget anytime soon.
