Unfortunately, if you have spilled nail polish on a gold or silver ring, there are a limited number of cleaning solutions you can utilize at home. If the ring is valuable, it is best to take it to a jeweler for a professional cleaning. This is especially important if the ring has pearls or gemstones, which can be damaged by rough cleaning.
Step 1
Allow the fingernail polish to dry and use a toothpick or your fingernail to chip away at the paint. Do not use a metal implement, as the abrasion could cause extensive damage to the surface of your ring.
Step 2
Use a cloth or a cotton swab to cover the stain with washing soda and several drops of ammonia.
Step 3
Rinse the ring in warm water.
Step 4
Polish the ring with a soft cloth.
