Wash and dry your hair thoroughly before applying any dye, as the dye will stay better on clean hair.

Style your hair as desired. Combing or attempting to style the white streak will cause the color to flake off.

Cut the tin foil into one-inch squares. If you're dyeing longer hair, make the squares an inch or two bigger.

Choose the piece of hair you want to color and separate it with a comb. If you don’t have a friend to help you make the streak, use a hair clip to hold the hair.

Use an old toothbrush to apply colored gel or liquid shoe polish. Dip the toothbrush into the dye and brush it into a small section of your selected hair, starting at the roots. Be careful not to get any dye on your scalp. Brush the dye onto one small section at a time, keeping the hair as flat as possible. As you go, wrap each section in foil to keep it flat and to keep the dye from getting onto the rest of your hair.
