How to Get Rid of Scars From Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are scars which form as a result of skin stretching. Though they can occur after any period of rapid growth, stretch marks are common after pregnancy, weight gain and growth spurts. As with any scars, stretch marks are difficult to remove. There are various treatments which can gradually fade them but it does take a while to achieve significant results. Be diligent in your treatment and you'll eventually be able to get rid of your stretch marks scars.

Get laser therapy. Laser treatments are the most effective means to get rid of stretch mark scars. The laser's intense light breaks up scar tissue and pigment. With repeated sessions, your stretch marks can be completely removed. In addition, your skin will look younger and firmer after laser treatment, due to stimulated collagen production.

Use products that contain hydroxy acids. These naturally-occurring acids can be found in cleansers, toners, moisturizers and serums. They aid in skin cell regeneration so new, undamaged cells are created more expediently to replace your stretched, damaged skin cells.

Ask your dermatologist for a prescription for Retin-A. When applied topically, Retin-A helps to improve skin tone and reduce the appearance of scars. Your skin will appear smoother and more even in tone after a few weeks of use.

Apply scar treatment cream to your stretch marks. You can find such creams available over-the-counter in most pharmacies and drug stores. The creams generally contain natural ingredients such as onion extract which help to gradually fade stretch marks and other scars. You must apply multiple times per day for at least eight weeks before seeing results.

Place silicone scar treatment sheets over your stretch marks. The sheets help to break up scar tissue and improve skin uniformity. Generally, you must leave the sheets on the affected area for several days without removing them. You may need repeated applications to achieve desired results.

Wear sunscreen. The sun's rays can damage stretch marks, further worsening their appearance. In order to help them fade, you must protect them from the sun. Opt for a high-level SPF that protects against UVB and UVA rays. If you'll be in the sun for extended periods of time, reapply every few hours.

Rub your stretch marks. Regular massage increases circulation and breaks up scar tissue. You'll notice an improvement in your scars if you massage them a few times a day for at least 90 seconds.
