Puffy Eyes Treatment

Puffiness around the eyes is a malady that most of us suffer at some point in our lives. The appearance of puffiness is more prominent in the morning -- the result of water buildup and fat deposits, according to Paula's Choice. No matter the cause, the result is unsightly and causes you to look tired or sick. Reduce or eliminate the puffy appearance by utilizing some effective at-home remedies.

Fill a bowl with 1 gallon of cold water and 1 to 2 cups of ice. Place the bowl near a sink, and use your hands to gently rinse your face with the ice water. Apply water to the entire face for one to two minutes, concentrating mainly on the eye area to reduce the swelling. Gently pat your face dry with a towel.

Wrap a thick towel around a bag of frozen vegetables. Sit down, but remain sitting upright. Hold the towel over your eye area for at least 10 minutes to reduce the swelling.

Apply a pea-sized amount of a firming eye-cream that has caffeine, aloe or vitamin E as one of the main ingredients. Lightly dab the eye cream under both of your eyes in the areas that look puffy. Gently continue dabbing until evenly applying the cream to all area of puffiness. Wait until the cream dries completely. Feel the skin tightening slightly as the cream dries.

  • To prevent puffiness from redeveloping, drink at least eight glasses of water each day.

Another way to prevent puffiness is to sleep on your back with two pillows under your head. This positions your head at angle, allowing excess fluid to drain out of your face.
