Sweet Corn Nutrition

The juicy crunch of sweet corn on the cob is one of summer's simple pleasures. Provided that you skip the butter and salt, sweet corn is a nutritious grain with plenty of fiber, protein as well as other important nutrients. Steam, boil or grill sweet corn for a tasty, healthy side dish.

Calories, Fat and Carbs

Sweet corn is a low-calorie, low-fat food. One large ear has 123 calories and only 1.93 grams of fat. As its name implies, sweet corn contains some sugar. One large ear has 8.95 grams of sugar and a total carbohydrate content of 26.74 grams.

Fiber and Protein

For a grain, sweet corn is surprisingly high in protein and has nearly 5 grams per large ear. Sweet corn is also a good source of fiber, which is essential for bowel health, with 2.9 grams per large ear.

Vitamins and Minerals

Sweet corn isn't particularly nutrient-dense, but one large ear does have 386 milligrams of potassium and 60 micrograms of folate, which is a B vitamin that's particularly important for women during their reproductive years.
