Pomegranate Juice Is Full of Antioxidants
Pomegranate juice is healthy because it is full of antioxidants, "at higher levels than other fruit juices," says cardiologist Thomas Behrenbeck, M.D. "Antioxidants are thought to provide several heart-protecting benefits, including reducing low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or "bad") cholesterol." It is also high in vitamin K, folates and potassium.
Pomegranate Juice Is High In Sugar
Unfortunately, pomegranate juice is also very sugary. Once cup of pomegranate juice has 33g of carbohydrates, 32g of which come from sugar. The amount of sugar in the juice also raises its calories.
Bottom Line
Because pomegranate juice is so sugary, stick to one cup or less per day. If you are concerned about or limiting your sugar in take, stick to half a cup of pomegranate juice, cut with seltzer water.
