What's your daily skin care regimen?
I tend to try a bunch of different products I read about instead of sticking to a few, but recently I've been trying to stick to a daily routine. I use two face washes: One that is mild and one for breakouts. Unfortunately, my face can be prone to minor breakouts, especially when I'm stressed. At night, I use La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser, and then either Cetaphil or Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser in the mornings. If I have a blemish, I'll dab on Mario Badescu Drying Lotion before I go to bed, which works wonders. I usually put on Benefit's Triple Performing Facial Emulsion in the mornings before I put on my makeup. Once a week, I'll use Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask, which keeps my skin blemish free and really smooth.
What makeup do you normally wear?
My makeup routine is one of my favorite parts of my day, and I'm pretty consistent with what I wear whether it's a work day, weekend or night out. I first start with a few sprays of Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer Water to set my face before foundation. Believe it or not, my favorite face foundation is Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup which I apply using a beauty blender. I've been wearing it since I was 16 and I get compliments all the time. Even if I have a blemish or two, it makes my face look flawless. After foundation, I set my face with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Powder which gives me that extra flawless look.
I typically use Nars blush in Deep Throat or Orgasm and finish my face with La Mer's The Powder which eliminates oil throughout the day and gives me a dewy, illuminating look. After my face, I brush my brows with Benefit's Goof Proof Brow Pencil and set them with Benefit's Gimme Brow. To finish off my brows, I swipe Benefit's High Brow Highlighter right under the arch to give them that perfect finish. I then use Benefit's Roller Lash Curling Mascara on my top lashes, which makes my lashes super long and dramatic.
If I'm going out that night, I may also add a little bit of Mac's eyeliner in a goldish brown shade to my top lid. Then to finish, I line my lips with Mac's Lip Pencil in Boldly Bare (good universal color), dab a little rosebud salve on, and then fill them in with one of my many Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks (Double Dare is my favorite) or Smashbox's Aways On Matte Liquid Lipstick (In Demand, Babe Alert and Big Spender are a few of my favorites).
How would you describe your approach to beauty?
I'd describe my approach to beauty as fresh but bold. I love a good bold and bright lip (you'll rarely catch me without one!) and long lashes to make my eyes pop.
Tell us, how do you get such amazing hair?
I typically only wash my hair 3 to 4 times max per week, which I think helps keep it really shiny and healthy. Most days at work I just throw my hair in a top knot, but on weekends and nights out I'll curl and style it. I curl my hair using T3 SinglePass Whirl Styling Wand (sold out, but similar here), which gives my hair that soft beachy curl look. My curls last all day, and it's so easy to use. After I curl my hair, I brush out each curl to loosen them up and spray a little hairspray to hold the wave.
Are you trying out any new products you don't typically use?
I've never used under eye cream, but since I've noticed darker under eye circles, I started using It's Potent! eye cream by Benefit.
Do you have any favorite beauty treatments?
My favorite beauty treatment is definitely getting my eyebrows waxed. I have naturally dark and thick eyebrows, which is a blessing but also high maintenance! While I'm lucky natural thick brows are in, I've been getting them waxed since I was 12, and have to get them done every two weeks. I always feel so much more put together when my brows are freshly done and I'm so happy that I never got into that teenage tweezing frenzy!
What's the last product you used until there was nothing left?
Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave in Conditioner. It makes my hair so soft without making it oily.
What are your some of your favorite scents?
Marchesa (they no longer make this, but you can usually find it on Amazon), Jo Malone in Nectarine Blossom and Honey, and Stella by Stella McCartney.
Can you tell us a little bit about your job? What's it like working at Yelp?
I just had my four year anniversary or "Yelpiversary" as we like to call it. I started as a sales account executive in San Francisco a few months after graduating from UCLA, and then was promoted to sales management almost two years ago.
I recently moved to Chicago from San Francisco for my job at Yelp. Since I've never lived outside of California, I thought "why not?!" and moved in April with my best friend from work. We've had a lot of fun decorating our apartment straight out of Pinterest (pics below, we also love cheese and hosting people for wine nights).
I currently lead the second month of our sales training program in Chicago, so I get to work with 25 to 70 new sales account executives every month and introduce them to Yelp Sales. I've met some of my closest friends at Yelp in both SF and Chicago and absolutely love my job. Can't wait for the next four years!
What's one thing you do every day that makes you feel great?
I can be kind of a stress case, so I make sure to work out a few times a week (I love SoulCycle!) and I've been getting into simple meditation.
Who do you look to for beauty inspiration?
Ever since "Laguna Beach" aired back in the day, I've always loved Lauren Conrad. We have similar hair and eye color, so beauty tips that work for her, tend to work well for me too. I also think she has the most amazing hair, so I often get color ideas from her.
I also look to Kiernan Shipka (Sally Draper from "Mad Men") for beauty and fashion advice. I get told fairly often that she's my doppelgänger, so any products I read that she uses I give a try!
Be sure to follow Kristen on Instagram, and check back next week for the latest installment of 52 Faces, a weekly series that spotlights a real woman's beauty routine. Last week, LA-based actor Maya Harris revealed the best $7 mascara and the super simple morning ritual that keeps her feeling positive all day long.
