Louis Vuitton has been synonymous with fashion and high-end products since he introduced them in 1853 at Rue Neuve des Capucines in Paris. Originally becoming a "packer" for the French aristocracy, Vuitton later used his knowledge to make high-end and stunning traveling cases. In the past 150 years of its existence, the line has grown to include clothing, handbags and jewelry for men and women. The Speedy bag, a smaller version of the signature Keepall, is one of Vuitton's best sellers.
History of the Speedy
Georges Vuitton, the son of Louis Vuitton, invented the signature "Keepall" bag in 1930. The long overnight bag, embellished with LV logos (standing for the company's Louis Vuitton) was made for the elite to serve their travel needs. The brand immediately evoked prominence and wealth, and the Keepall became so popular that Georges introduced a smaller bag resembling it (but for everyday use) a couple of years later. It would be named "The Speedy." The Speedy has become popular over the years and been seen on the arms of classic Hollywood starlets such as Audrey Hepburn and modern stars such as Jessica Simpson and Hilary Duff.
The Speedy 25 vs Speedy 30
The Speedy is manufactured in two styles: the 25 and 30. While the Speedy is made in a variety of finishes (leather, canvas and damier), the 25 and 30 still remain as guides for the size of the purse. The Speedy 30 is 11.8 inches x 8.3 inches x 6.7 inches, while the Speedy 25 is 9.8 inches x 7.5 inches x 5.9 inches. The difference may appear slight, but it can actually be quite major depending on your size.
Price Points
The Speedy 30 is only about a $30 more expensive than the Speedy 25, making price not the defining issue. While prices periodically rise, the Speedy 30 is now about $690, while the Speedy 25 is about $665. Both of these price quotes are before tax.
How Much Do They Hold?
The Speedy 30 can carry a lot more than the Speedy 25, even if the 30 doesn't seem like it from outward appearance. The Speedy 30 can easily fit a pair of shoes, a book, a shirt, a camera, wallet, keys and sunglasses. The Speedy 25 can fit a small book, a pair of sunglasses, a camera and a wallet, but the extraneous things will not fit. The Speedy 30 is great if you want to spend the night somewhere on an impromptu basis.
Which One Looks Best On Me?
If you're ordering one online, it can be very difficult to tell which one will look best on your particular body type. Generally, a Speedy 25 will look better for those under 5 feet 6 inches, while a Speedy 30 will look better on those taller than that. However, either size will provide a polished and beautiful finish to any outfit, making you instantly appear a little bit classier. If you're still confused over which size looks best on you, see the video on the different sizes in Reference 1, in which an owner of the two bags compares them side by side.
