Prolonged sun exposure and aging can cause areas of increased pigmentation on skin. These darkened areas are commonly referred to as sun spots, and can make your face appear less youthful. You can conceal the spots with makeup or use skin bleaching treatments to reverse the damage, but these solutions are often pricey. Before resorting to drastic measures, you can try a safe, natural and inexpensive remedy using a product you probably already have available.

Cut a lemon in half and squeeze it into a small bowl or pour 2 to 3 tbsp. of bottled lemon juice into your bowl. Be sure to use pure undiluted lemon juice if you're not using a fresh lemon.

Saturate a cotton swab (for smaller areas) or a cotton pad with the lemon juice.

Apply the juice to all affected areas of your face, using a blotting motion, taking care to avoid the eye area.

Allow the juice to dry on the skin, then apply a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher before venturing outdoors. More sun exposure will counteract the effectiveness of the lightening treatment.

Continue to use the lemon juice treatment daily, or once in the morning and again and night. It may take several weeks and multiple applications for the lemon juice to have the desired bleaching effect.
