Sugar wax is used as an alternative to wax for hair removal. Waxing with sugar is called sugaring or hallawa and has been done for thousands of years, starting with the ancient Egyptians. Sugar wax can be made at home for a fraction of the price that it would cost to buy in the store. An added benefit of homemade sugar wax is that it lacks any harmful chemicals that some store products contain.

Combine 2 cups granulated white sugar, 1/2 cup lemon juice and 1/2 cup water in a large cooking pot. A tall cooking pot works best because it prevents the sugar mixture from splattering out of the pot when cooking.

Allow sugar mixture to simmer while stirring constantly until the sugar fully melts and the mixture turns a light golden brown. Once the sugar is melted and the mixture is a light golden brown, remove the cooking pot from the hot burner and let cool.
