How to Get Rid of Sweaty Armpits at Home

by Laura Dixon

Armpits are an area of the body where people sweat the most, which can lead to unsightly stains on clothing and unpleasant odors to match. Yet, unless you suffer from the severe underarm sweating condition known as Axillary Hyperhidrosis, there are a number of home remedies to help get rid of sweaty armpits you can try right at home.

Items you will need

  • Lime
  • Alum crystal
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Cotton balls
  • Antiperspirant or deodorant
  • Shirts made from moisture-wicking fabric
Step 1

Cut a lime in half and take one half to rub across the skin of one underarm, then repeat this with the remaining half on the opposite armpit. The acid found in limes has been known to effectively kill underarm bacteria and absorb excess sweat. Allow your underarms to air-dry before putting on clothing, as the lime juice can stain.

Step 2

Apply some alum crystal (or use a deodorant that includes alum as an active ingredient) directly onto your armpits, making sure to avoid any pieces with jagged edges. You can find this effective natural home remedy in grocery store spice sections or at health food stores.

Step 3

Rub some apple cider vinegar onto underarms after bathing or showering, using a cotton ball to apply under each arm. A good rule of thumb for using this natural remedy is to apply the vinegar before sleeping, then rinse off the next morning.

Step 4

Follow each of these natural home remedies by applying your normal antiperspirant or deodorant, and dress as usual.

Tips

  • When exercising or participating in outdoor activities, wear a shirt with wicking fabric. This will pull sweat and moisture away from the body, preventing excess sweat in the armpit area.
