Shoes made by the TOMS brand are typically more resistant to stains due to their canvas fabric. According to the TOMS website, most cleaning jobs can be performed by washing your shoes in cold water with a gentle detergent, then air-drying. Unlike some shoes, TOMS products should not be placed in the drier and should instead be air-dried to prevent damage. If your shoes are white or light-colored, bleach might be an effective option for cleaning off stubborn acrylic paints. For best results, start off with gentle cleaning methods and progress to bleaching and soaking if needed.
Pick off any dried paint flakes by cutting grooves into the paint stain with a toothpick and peeling off the flakes. Apply a damp cloth to the paint spots and scrub off as much as possible. Re-wet your cloth with cold water and keep scrubbing until you feel confident that you have removed as much paint as you can by hand.
Mix cold water and a gentle washing detergent in a bucket and stir until the detergent is evenly mixed. Dip your TOMS shoes in the bucket for 15 to 30 seconds, then remove. Scrub the paint spot liberally using a cloth or sponge.
Dry the paint stain with a towel to remove any remaining moisture or detergent. Mix one part bleach with four parts water and dip a toothbrush into the mixture. Scrub the paint stain with the bristles in small circles until the stain is removed.
Place your TOMS shoes in the bucket of detergent from Step 2 and let them soak for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the shoes and dry the stain area with a towel to brush off any remaining paint. Let air-dry for six or more hours, or until dry.
