Everyone's hair looks different when they have "bed head." Some hair sticks up around the head; some people develop flat spots from the pressure of the head against the pillow overnight. The best way to avoid bed head is to shower in the morning, but you may not have time. If you're already waking up early, taking the time to shower and dry your hair each morning may be unrealistic. But there are ways to fix bed head without stepping into the shower.
Fixes for Short Hair
Spray your hair with water. Keep a spray bottle with plain water available to spray the areas of your hair that are misbehaving. There's no reason to soak your hair; just add moisture.
Work in a styling product. Squirt a dime-sized amount of hair gel into the palm of your hand. Rub your palms together and apply it to your entire head. There's no need to concentrate on the area that has the bed head.
Style your hair the way you normally would. Finish with a mist of hairspray to prevent your hair from returning to its bed head shape as it dries.
Fixes for Long Hair
Start with dry hair. Longer hair hides bed head a little better than shorter hair, and it's easier to correct.
Style with heat. Use a flat iron or curling iron to create some movement and direct any cowlicks the correct way. Add volume to any flat spots by running the flat iron over them or adding some bouncy curls with the curling iron. There's no reason to go over your entire head. Keep the styling tool moving, as opposed to holding it in one spot, and there won't be a dramatic difference between the styled hair and what you haven't touched.
Finish with hairspray. Bend over at the waist and mist your hair with hairspray to help add body.
