A pair of well-fitting, slim-cut gray jeans in a classic straight leg could easily take the place of any guy's favorite jeans because of the versatility of the color, the variety in shades, and the chic outfits they help complete. More importantly, you'll enjoy standing out in a sea of men all wearing the average blue jean.
Heather Gray
A light gray jean — sometimes referred to as heather gray — is a fantastic choice in warm-weather months if you're not bold enough to try white pants but want something that "lightens up" your look. Wear heather gray jeans with a navy-and-white striped jersey tee and a pair of deep-brown sandals for a stylish summer weekend outfit. If you're heading somewhere more formal such as the office, add a bright plaid button-down and a pair of sand-colored desert boots. Cuff the jean hem to display the ankle boot properly. Wear a skinny cotton tie in a small gingham pattern that incorporates one of the colors in the shirt with white. Wear a pale-neutral belt. If a jacket is necessary, keep it in a lighter palette and choose a light linen or a soft-cotton deconstructed sports coat.
Medium Gray
A medium shade of gray is equally appropriate for darker or lighter outfits, so it's your safest all-season choice. This is the better shade of gray for you if you have a penchant for bold colors such as red or have an abundance of black shoes. Medium-gray jeans made out of a heavy fabric are stylishly interchangeable with a pair of gray flannel pants and likely more comfortable. Wear them with a classic buffalo-plaid jacket and a pitch-black slim-cut classic piqué polo shirt. Accessorize with a pair of black leather brogues and dark gray socks.
Charcoal Gray
Charcoal is the gray closest to black, so jeans in this color work with the same outfits as black, but add a little edge. A pair of raw-denim gray pants in a classic cut can dress up almost as nicely as a black trouser. Add a rich burgundy button-down, a steel-blue chambray tie and a gray-tweed sports coat. Accessorize with either oxblood-leather or black-leather shoes and belts. Try a pair of shiny slip-on loafers for a fresh, modern style.
Trendy Gray
A pair of light-wash — nearly white — gray jeans that are ripped and frayed give you a an edgy-hipster style. Wear them with a slip-on boat shoe or a canvas sneaker and a vintage tee. Waxed-gray denim is a more androgynous, rockstar take on jeans. The waxed style has a lacquered look and feel and should be paired with other modern pieces. A black wide-neck, loose-knit sweater or a loose-fit jersey sweatshirt and utilitarian, black boots are suitable choices for this style.
