Making your own clothing and accessories is a great way save money and learn some new skills in the process. Kiss locks are clasps that are comprised of two ball bearings that overlap to secure handbags shut. You can create your own kiss lock handbag by purchasing a pattern and inserting a purse frame with a kiss lock into the fabric.

Items you will need

  • Fabric
  • Pattern
  • Purse frame
  • Tweezers
  • Textile glue
  • Sewing pins
  • Sewing scissors
  • Sewing machine
Step 1

Lie the fabric on a flat surface in front of you. Place the pattern on top of the fabric and secure it with sewing pins.

Step 2

Cut around the pattern with sewing scissors. Remove the pins from the fabric and place the pattern to one side.

Step 3

Fold one end of the handbag fabric over the top of the other and match the two edges that now represent the top of your handbag precisely. The fabric to be used for the outside of the bag should be facing inwards.

Step 4

Pin the side seams of the bag together with sewing pins.

Step 5

Sew the side seams of your handbag together.

Step 6

Turn your handbag right side out.

Step 7

Open the clasp on the purse frame and apply a thin layer of glue to the inside of the purse frame on one side.

Step 8

Insert the handbag through the purse frame between the two metal clasps.

Step 9

Position the fabric onto the purse frame and press firmly into place with tweezers.

Step 10

Allow five minutes for the glue to dry.

Step 11

Apply a thin layer of glue to the inside of the purse frame on the opposite side.

Step 12

Position the fabric onto the purse frame and press firmly into place with tweezers.

Step 13

Allow five minutes for the glue to dry.
