Qdoba is a fast food restaurant that serves Mexican style cuisine using fresh ingredients. The restaurant serves a variety of burritos, tacos, salads and quesadillas that you order your way. You can add rice, beans, cheese, toppings and salsa according to your own personal tastes. Knowing the calorie, fat and saturated fat content of your favorite Qdoba creations can help you make the healthiest choices possible.
Burritos
The burritos at Qdoba are one of the most popular menu items and begin with an over-sized flour tortilla. Choose from rice, black beans, pinto beans, cheese, toppings and a variety of salsas to customize your meal. A Queso Burrito with rice, black beans, sour cream, cheese and salsa weighs in at 860 calories, 36 g of total fat and 18 g of saturated fat. A Poblano Pesto Burrito with rice, black beans, sour cream, cheese, salsa and grilled vegetables contains 1320 calories, 50 g of total fat and 22 g of saturated fat. The Grilled Veggies burrito with rice, black beans, sour cream, cheese and salsa has 820 calories and 31 g of fat, of which 12 g is saturated. Though an advantage of the large burritos is the amount of protein and fiber you consume, you also get a huge amount of sodium.
Tacos
You can choose crispy corn or soft flour tortillas when ordering tacos at Qdoba. The Crispy Chicken Taco with black beans, chicken, guacamole, grilled vegetables and salsa contains 290 calories, 16 g of fat and 4 g of saturated fat. The Soft Shredded Beef Taco with black beans, chicken, guacamole, grilled vegetables and salsa has 300 calories, 13 g of fat and 5 g of saturated fat. The Soft Grilled Veggie Taco with black beans, chicken, guacamole, grilled vegetables and salsa weighs in at 260 calories, 11 g of fat and 4 g of saturated fat. Keep in mind that these counts are for one taco and you generally get three tacos when your order a taco meal.
Salads
Qdoba offers salads with a fried tortilla shell or naked without the shell. The salad shell adds several hundred calories and several grams of fat to your salad. A Taco Salad with the shell, chicken, rice, black beans, sour cream, cheese, salsa and cilantro-lime dressing contains 1195 calories, 57 g of fat, 17 g of saturated fat and a whopping 2150 mg of sodium. The Naked Salad with beef, rice, black beans, sour cream, cheese, salsa and fat-free picante ranch dressing has 810 calories, 34 g of fat, 16 g of saturated fat and 2240 mg of sodium.
Nachos and Quesadillas
Nachos and quesadillas are included on the menu for consumers who wish to eat something aside from the popular burrito and taco options. These meals are also high in calories and fat. The 3-Cheese Nachos with beef, rice, cheese, black beans, lettuce, sour cream, guacamole and salsa weighs in at 1630 calories, 87 g of fat, 33 g of saturated fat and 2810 mg of sodium. The Cheese Quesadilla contains 770 calories, 44 g of fat and 26 g of saturated fat. The Chicken Quesadilla has 960 calories, 54 g of fat and 29 g of saturated fat.
Chips and Dip
Chips and dip are a popular accompaniment to the main course entrees. A small order of chips with salsa, melted cheese and salsa has 650 calories, 43 g of fat and 16 g of saturated fat. A large order of chips with guacamole has 560 calories, 26 g of fat and 5 g of saturated fat. You can reduce your calorie and fat intake by ordering the small chips with plain salsa for 290 calories, 13 g of fat and 3 g of saturated fat.
Your Best Choices
The pinto beans at Qdoba have 14 g of fiber in one 6-oz. serving. Adding pinto beans to your burrito, taco or quesadilla is a simple way to increase the overall nutritional value of your meal for only 1.5 g of additional fat. The pico de gallo salsa is a good source of vitamin A and vitamin C in a 2-oz. portion. Adding pico de gallo to your meal adds only an additional 10 calories. Fajita vegetables, which include bell peppers and onions, are a significant source of vitamin C, offering you almost two-thirds of what you need each day. Grilled vegetables are another option that offer you 12 percent of your daily Vitamin A needs. The meats offer you plenty of protein, but should be eaten without added sour cream and cheese to keep the fat and calorie content lower. A naked burrito is another of your best choices because the tortilla adds 520 calories and 17 g of fat to your meal.
Considerations
The high fat toppings and salad dressings contribute to a large portion of the fat and calories you consume at Qdoba. Order your taco or burrito without sour cream and cheese to reduce your fat and calorie intake. Liz Vaccariello, author of "Flat Belly Diet! Pocket Guide," recommends eating only half of your order. Split your meal with a friend or save the other half for later. Hold the chips and dip as another easy way to improve the health of your meal.
