Ideas for Engagement Proposal Locations in Minneapolis

by Anne Shelton

Getting engaged is a momentous occasion and one that you and your beloved will remember for the rest of your lives. Choosing the right venue to pop the question is essential to making your special moment perfect. Fortunately for lovebirds in the Twin Cities, there are a number of romantic engagement proposal locations in Minneapolis.

Stone Arch Bridge

With breathtaking views of the Minneapolis skyline and St. Andrews Falls, this former railroad bridge is now for pedestrians, cyclists and the River City Trolley. The only stone bridge built across the Mississippi River, this Minneapolis icon is the perfect spot for a romantic stroll that could lead to "happily ever after." Choose a day when the weather is nice, walk hand-in-hand and declare your undying love in full view of the city.

Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

Looking for something thoughtful and whimsical? The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is the largest urban sculpture garden in the country, spanning 11 city acres. You can drop down on one knee in front of one of the more more than 40 permanent installations, including the colossal Spoonbridge and Cherry fountain and Frank Ghery's Standing Glass Fish. Or ask for her hand amid hundreds of fresh-blooming seasonal flowers in the springtime.

Minnehaha Park

With a 53-foot waterfall and 193 acres of gorgeous trees, bluffs and overlooks, interspersed with several sculptures, it's no wonder Minnehaha Park has been the site of many a romantic proposal. It's a hot spot for weddings, too. As one of Minnesota's oldest and dearest attractions, the park attracts more than 850,000 visitors each year.

The Depot Ice Rink

There's nothing more romantic than ice skating arm-in-arm with your sweetheart. You could consider popping the question in a converted old train shed that features floor-to-ceiling windows all around to showcase the city sights as you glide across the ice. The Depot Ice Rink might just be the perfect proposal site for couples who are young at heart and not afraid to strap on their skates and take to the ice.

Nicollet Mall

If you are looking for a hipper, more happening scene for proposing to your girl or guy, the Nicollet Mall offers 11 blocks of some of the city's best restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Propose over a romantic dinner at one of Minneapolis' premiere restaurants, such as Vincent, The Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant or Barrio. Then toast to your future together at Brit's Pub or The Local, two of the best known bars in town.
