Sore, painful feet are a common ailment that you have likely experienced several times before. The cause of sore feet is most commonly excessive pressure or strain on the tendons and bones. This is typically a result of prolonged standing, walking or running. Glenn Copeland, Stan Solomon and Mark Myerson, M.D., authors of "The Good Foot Book," state that icing the feet is an effective method to alleviate some of the pain that you are experiencing.

Fill a small plastic bag with 10 to 15 ice cubes to create an ice pack. If you already have a commercial ice pack, skip this step.

Sit in a comfortable chair and cross one leg over the other so that you can easily reach your foot. This elevates your foot, reducing painful swelling. Alternatively, you can prop your foot up on a pillow or folded blanket for comfort.

Hold the ice pack on your foot with light pressure, focusing on the area that is experiencing the most pain. Keep the ice pack on your foot for 10 to 20 minutes before repeating with the other foot.

Repeat this process four to eight times daily to relieve sore foot pain. Always allow the afflicted area to return to a normal temperature before reapplying.
