How to Get Rock-Chick Style

When you want to look cool and little bit edgy, dressing like a rocker chick definitely can do the trick. The style is sexy and chic, but it also has a relaxed, casual feel that makes it ideal for a variety of settings. If you want to incorporate a little rocker-chick style in your closet, start with a few key pieces that can serve as the foundation for a true rock-'n'-roll look -- and don't forget to pull the entire outfit together with the right hair and makeup.

Embrace Leather

For true rocker-chick style, no wardrobe is complete without some leather. You can incorporate leather into your look in a variety of ways. If you really want to turn heads, slip on a pair of black leather pants or faux-leather leggings. A black leather motorcycle jacket is another essential piece for a rocker chick’s closet. Pair it with distressed jeans for a casual look or wear it over a little black dress for a night out. A black leather dress or skirt also can work well for evening events. Don’t forget black leather boots either -- choose a sexy option like a high-heeled pair that goes to the knees, or try a tougher look with shorter motorcycle-style boots.

Get Studded

Metal studs can give any item an edgy look that screams rocker chick. You can choose a leather jacket with stud details along the shoulders and back or black stiletto heels with studs along the sides. If you have a pair of jeans that you love, give them a rocker-chick makeover by purchasing studs at the craft store and adding them to the pockets yourself. Studded jewelry like leather cuffs and chokers can help add rocker-chick toughness to a simple jeans-and-tee-shirt outfit.

Go Slouchy

When it comes to tee shirts and tops, opt for slouchy, relaxed pieces. This may mean that you have to go up a size so your tops have a looser, sloppier fit -- but be sure to pair them with skinny leather pants or jeans to keep your silhouette balanced. Basic tee shirts in shades like white, black and gray are ideal under a leather or denim jacket, but you also can mix in concert tees of your favorite bands. If you’re rocking a long, loose tank or tee, opt for styles with an asymmetrical hem to give the look a little more edge. Tops that are large enough to slip off a shoulder also work well.

Keep It Messy

If you’re going for a rocker-chick look, messy hair and makeup are definitely part of the style. Play up your hair’s natural curls or waves by misting it with a texturizing spray and using your fingers to comb through it for a messy, tousled look. If your hair is naturally straight, use a curling iron to add loose waves to it before applying the texturizing spray. For makeup, dark, smokey eyes in shades like black and gray are your best bet. Don’t skip the black eyeliner either -- apply it along your upper and lower lash lines and use a brush or a cotton swab to smudge it out for a sexy, messy look.
