Make This Easy Marshmallow Peeps Daisy Cake

Using white Peeps, lemon jelly beans and pre-made lemon curd, you can whip up a simple-but-festive cake in practically no time. This is the kind of project kids love to help make -- and eat. We ordered the white Peeps online, but they're also available at Wal-Mart.

Prepare the Cake

Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a deep 8-inch round cake pan; lightly flour and place a circle of parchment paper in the bottom.

In large bowl, add flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, shortening, eggs and vanilla.

With an electric mixer on low speed, beat until moistened. Change to medium speed and beat 2 minutes.

Scrape the sides of the bowl and beat 2 more minutes.

Pour batter into the prepared pan.

Bake 40 to 45 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes. Lift the cake from the pan and place it on a wire rack until completely cool, about 1 hour.

Decorate the Cake

Place toothpicks around the cake, centered as a cutting guide. Split the cake with a serrated knife. Keep the knife level and touching the tops of the toothpicks as you cut. Set the upper half of the cake aside.

Spread the lemon curd on top of the split cake, and then replace the upper half.

Smooth frosting on the sides and top of the cake. Don't worry if the frosting isn't perfect -- very little of it will show.

Cover the center of the cake with jelly beans and set the Peeps around the outside edges.
