by Ainsley Patterson

After you purchase a new pair of Converse shoes the first thing that you will need to do is to lace the shoes up. Lacing up your shoes helps to hold them on your feet, but the way that you lace your shoes is also a way that you can make a personal fashion statement. You can lace your Converse shoes with plain while laces, colored laces or patterned laces. One way to lace your Converse shoes is with a pattern known as the straight lace.

Step 1

Thread the shoelace through the bottom two holes in the shoe so that both ends of the shoelace end up inside the shoe.

Step 2

Bring the lace on the left side of the Converse shoe over to the right and thread it through the second hole on the right side from the inside to the outside. Bring the lace on the right side of the Converse shoe over to the left and thread it through the third hole on the left side of the Converse shoe from the inside to the outside.

Step 3

Bring both laces straight across the Converse shoe and thread them through the hole on their new respective sides from the outside to the inside.

Step 4

Bring the lace on the right side of the Converse shoe over to the left side of the shoe and thread it through the fourth hole from the inside to the outside. Bring the lace on the left side of the Converse shoe over to the right side of the shoe and thread it through the fifth hole from the inside to the outside of the shoe.

Step 5

Continue to lace up the rest of the shoe in this pattern until you reach the top of the Converse shoe.
