How to Naturally Rid Myself of Dark Skin Pigments

by Lillante Remy

Hyperpigmentation is when dark spots remain on the skin after an outbreak of pimples or bumps. In addition, hyperpigmentation can be caused by an increase in melanin resulting from skin inflammation or irritation, or too much sun exposure. Chemical bleaches dry out the skin. To naturally rid yourself of these dark skin pigments, there are a few simple home remedies that can be performed on a regular basis that will lighten the skin tone.

Items you will need

  • Small bowl
  • Fresh lemons or lime
  • Honey
  • Powder/whole milk
  • Almond oil/seeds
  • Oatmeal
  • Aloe vera gel/juice
  • Turmeric powder
  • Orange
  • Tomato
  • Castor Oil
  • cucumber

Step 1

Cover your face with a hot damp washcloth. The heat opens the pores on your face. After that, wash the area with a mild soap or cleanser. It is essential to your skin's health to exfoliate. Use a loofah or exfoliating gloves to wash your face. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells keeping your pores clear, stimulating blood flow, eliminating toxins from your skin, and speeding up the regeneration of skin cells. When you exfoliate, you end up with softer and smoother skin.

Step 2

Create a facial mask. In a small bowl, mix together one teaspoon each of honey, lemon juice, and milk powder. Add a half teaspoon of almond oil. Mix well. Apply it all over your face. Wait 15 minutes, then rinse well with water. This mask will help to naturally rid your skin of dark pigments.

Step 3

Rub a lemon or lime on the areas of your body where you have dark skin pigments. Leave on for 15 to 30 minutes and then rinse off. The acid in citrus fruits such as lemons and limes serves as a natural bleaching agent. Do this twice a day and your dark spots will lighten considerably. For added benefits, mix the acid with tumeric powder and leave the juice on your skin overnight. If you do not have turmeric powder, the lemon or lime alone will do the job.

Step 4

Try a facial mask made with oatmeal. Mix two tablespoons of oatmeal and four tablespoons of milk. Bring the oats and milk to a boil in a small pan for approximately 10 minutes. Turn the heat off and add in one tablespoon honey. You can also mix all of the ingredients and microwave on high for two minutes. Wait until warm or cool and apply over the dark pigments. Leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse well with water.

Step 5

Scrub the area with an orange or tomato. Take the pulp of a tomato and liberally apply on the area. Leave on for an hour. Wash off with warm water. This will have an instant bleaching effect, plus clear out your skin.

Step 6

Rub castor oil directly onto the skin twice daily. Leave on overnight for best results. Castor Oil contains ricinoleic acid, which has been shown to reduce the appearance of acne and dark skin pigments. It penetrates deeply into the skin tissue better than any other plant oil can.

Step 7

Rub aloe vera juice or gel directly onto dark skin pigments twice daily. Leave on for 30 to 45 minutes. This will help to fade dark spots. You should begin to notice improvements within a month's time.

Step 8

Create a natural skin whitener with cucumber juice. You can purchase the juice at your local natural food store. Take one tablespoon of the juice and stir in a teaspoon of lime juice with a dash of turmeric powder. Apply on your dark pigments and wash off after 30 minutes. If you are unable to find cucumber juice, you can cut up 1/3 or 1/4 cucumber into slices and purée in your blender or a food processor.
