How to Mix Bentonite

Bentonite clay is often used medicinally to clear the body of toxins, heavy metals and free radicals. It works through expansion after blending with a liquid. Contaminants are drawn into the negatively charged porous structure and the clay is then expelled from the body. Bentonite is often added to baths or made into poultices, mud packs or body wraps to reduce itching symptoms, cleanse the skin and stimulate the lymphatic system. In facial masks bentonite enhances circulation and exfoliates the pores. Taken internally, bentonite detoxifies the body and provides more than 70 minerals.

Internal Use

Combine 1 tsp. of bentonite clay powder and 1 cup of water, stirring thoroughly. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes. Drink on an empty stomach.

Make larger amounts by mixing 8 cups of water with 1 cup of bentonite clay powder in a 1 gallon plastic bottle. Screw the cap in place and shake the bottle vigorously for one minute.

Remove the cap from the bottle and allow the mixture to set for 15 minutes.

External Applications

Create face masks or poultices by mixing bentonite with equal parts of water or apple cider vinegar in a bowl. Stir the mixture into a smooth paste. Apply evenly over the skin.

Mix equal parts bentonite and oatmeal with calendula tea to make healing packs. Apply the blend over skin imperfections and wounds.

Detoxify your body by adding 2 cups of bentonite into a full bath. Stay in the water for at least 20 minutes.
