You can decorate a cake for a makeup or fashion-loving guest of honor with lipstick and eye shadow made from fondant. Use fondant colors that coordinate with the party’s color scheme or demonstrate how well you know the party girl by using her favorite makeup shades for the fondant decorations. Use the cosmetics to top a regular slab cake or make a three-dimensional purse-shaped cake and surround the purse with the lipstick tubes and eye shadow pots.
Place some fondant into a mixing bowl and add a few drops of food coloring to make the color you would like for the fondant lipstick.
Make a ball from the fondant and use your hands to roll the fondant into a cylindrical shape that measures approximately 3 inches long by ½-inch diameter.
Cut off one end of the cylinder by making a 45-degree angle cut. This makes the lipstick. Let the fondant dry.
Roll out a piece of white fondant to a thickness of approximately 1/10-inch. Cut a rectangle that measures about 1 inch by 2 inches. This is the outer lipstick tube.
Wrap the white fondant around the fondant cylinder. Place the white rectangle on a flat surface and place the cylinder against one 2-inch-long edge. Roll the cylinder and wrap the fondant around the tube. Use your fingers to smooth the seam line.
Mix a spoonful of luster dust with lemon juice in a small bowl and paint it onto the lipstick tube. You can also paint lightly over top of the lipstick to give it a metallic sheen.
Fondant Eye Shadow
Roll out a piece of fondant tinted black to a thickness of ¼-inch. Use a round cookie cutter to cut out two circles from the fondant.
Place one of the circles on a piece of wax paper. Cut a smaller circle using another round cookie cutter from the other circle. Discard the inner circle and place the outer ring on top of the first black circle.
Roll out a piece of fondant in the color of your choice. Cut out a circle using the smaller size cookie cutter. Mix a coordinating colored luster dust with some lemon juice and paint it onto the colored circle.
Place the colored circle within the ring of the black circle. Let the pieces dry.
Use an edible marker to write the name of the makeup brand on the center of the colored circle.
