Bad breath can be a problem easily solved with mouthwash. Don't pay tons of money for the store-bought versions when you can make your own with simple ingredients. Mouthwash can eliminate germs that cause flu, colds and bad breath, and restore the conditions in the mouth needed to naturally rebuild tooth enamel and eliminate cavities and gum disease. Natural mouthwash also avoids alcohol, which is known to dry the mouth, which helps unwanted bacteria grow.

Pour 1 cup of distilled water and mix in 1 tablespoon of xylitol. The crystals sometimes take a while to completely dissolve, but they will in time.

Add 1/4 tsp. of baking soda and 1/4 tsp. of sea salt and mix well.

Add one drop of the clove oil and three drops of the grapefruit seed extract and mix again. Pour into a lidded container. Shake it occasionally or just wait until all the xylitol crystals have dissolved.

Tips

  • Grapefruit seed extract is also great for sterilizing food working surfaces, toothbrushes, and putting a few drops in your handsoap is a natural way to disinfect that doesn't also destroy beneficial bacteria. Clove essential oil can also freshen and cleanse the air through misters and other aromatherapy techniques.
