How to Lighten a Dark Neck

by David Lipscomb ; Updated September 28, 2017

Dark spots on your skin and neck might be a result of heredity, pregnancy, sun exposure or another skin issue, such as liver spots. Known as hyperpigmentation, these spots could be covered with makeup -- but you might want to try and solve the problem at the skin level. Lemon's mild bleaching and exfoliating properties often makes it easier to conceal these issues -- or remove them entirely.

Cut a lemon in half. Rub the darkened area on your neck with the lemon.

Clean the spot after a few seconds with water and a clean washcloth.

Rub the spot with concentrated lemon juice as an alternative to using a raw lemon. Clean the area with a clean cloth and water.

Repeat the application for a few days to a few weeks, or until you see satisfactory results.

Tips

  • Mix lemon juice with pure sugar to create an all-natural weekly exfoliant.
