How to Have a Steam Facial for Dry Skin. If your skin tends to be dry and lackluster, or is suffering from too much time in the sun and wind, restore it to health with a steam facial. A regular steam facial with a combination of herbs formulated especially for dry skin will allow your pores to breath, restore lost moisture and remove dead skins cells, pollution, makeup and dirt.

  • 1 large saucepan with lid
  • 4 cups distilled water
  • 2 tsp. dried comfrey leaves
  • 2 tsp. dried chamomile blossoms
  • 1 tsp. orange flowers
  • 1 tsp. elder flowers
  • Folded towel or trivet
  • Large towel

Fill a large saucepan with 4 cups of distilled water and bring it to a roiling boil.

Step 2

Remove the saucepan from the heat and add 2 tsp. of dried comfrey leaves, 2 tsp. of dried chamomile blossoms,1 tsp. of orange flowers and 1 tsp. of elder flowers.

Step 3

Cover the saucepan and let the herbs steep for at least 5 minutes.

Step 4

Set the saucepan on a table, and protect the table from the heat with a folded towel or a trivet.

Step 5

Sit down and lean over the saucepan, with your face at least 10 inches from the steam.

Step 6

Relax and allow the herbal steam to penetrate your pores for about 10 minutes.

Step 7

Pat your face dry, splash on a little toner and finish with a light moisturizer.

  • If you prefer to use essential oils, make a steam facial as directed above, but instead of adding dried herbs, add 2 drops of chamomile oil and 3 drops of jasmine oil.
