Armpit odor is embarrassing and unpleasant. Many people use a combination of an antiperspirant and a deodorant to effectively reduce underarm sweating and armpit odor. The side effects of the chemicals in antiperspirants are often questioned. Even though not scientifically proven, they have been linked to breast cancer and tumor growths. To avoid using antiperspirants, practice proper hygiene and use products already present in your home to keep your armpits odor free.

Shave your armpits to remove armpit hairs; armpit hair promotes the growth of bacteria.

Apply mild soap to a wet washcloth and scrub your armpits with the washcloth. Scrub your armpits in this fashion each time you take a shower or bath. Using a washcloth removes more bacteria than just using a bar of soap and your hands. Pat your armpits dry with a clean towel.

Fill an 8-ounce cup with lukewarm water and mix 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide into the water. Apply the mixture to a clean washcloth and wipe your armpits with it to kill any bacteria. As an alternative, dab white vinegar on your armpits.

Wear loose, clean clothes that allow your armpits to breathe. Choose cotton, silk or wool fabrics that don't cling to your body. During exercise, wear clothes that draw perspiration away from your skin.
