How to Dye Dansko Cabrio Shoes Black

You can’t always afford to pick up a brand new pair of Dankso clogs, but you don’t have to buy new shoes for a brand new look. Dyeing your clogs can be an inexpensive way to update your wardrobe without emptying your wallet. It's also very easy, and only takes an afternoon, especially when dyeing them black. Dyes and polishes for black shoes are readily available at most supermarkets and household product retailers, such as Wal-Mart and Target.

Prepare your work surface by covering your work area with a tarp or newspaper.

Strip the shoe of any oils or dirt with a leather stripper. Apply the stripper to a cotton rag and swipe it across the surface of the entire shoe.

Apply one coat of black dye in even strokes with the synthetic brush. Let it dry for about an hour. Apply a second coat of the black dye, and let it dry for 2 hours.

Buff shoes with a clean cotton rag to even out the application of the dye.

Use black shoe polish to restore the sheen to the shoes. Follow the directions for the specific polish you choose.

Seal the shoe with leather dye sealer. Apply the sealer to a cotton rag and wipe across the surface of the shoe.
