Prosciutto is a dry-cured ham that comes primarily from the Parma region of Italy. It is made from a pig's or wild boar's hind leg or thigh, taking anywhere from nine months to two years depending on the size of the ham. The ham is first salted and cleaned then left alone for a few months, where all of the blood is drained and the ham is pressed. Then the salt is washed off the ham, and the butcher hangs it in a well-ventilated, dark area. You can crispen prosciutto in several ways.
Bake prosciutto slices in the oven. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees, then line your baking pan with a sheet of parchment paper. Place a few prosciutto slices on the parchment paper-lined pan, and bake them for 15 minutes or until the prosciutto is crispy.
Another option is to cook the prosciutto in the microwave. Line a microwaveable plate with three sheets of paper towels, and place the prosciutto slices on them. Set your microwave timer for three minutes, and cook until the prosciutto is crispy.
You can also fry the prosciutto in a pan. In a medium skillet filled with a few teaspoons of hot oil, add a few slices of prosciutto. Cook them for ten minutes or until the prosciutto is golden brown and crisp.
