Friendship bracelets are a fun accessory for children and teens who like to make and trade them. They are traditionally made from knotted, braided or woven strands of a flexible cord, such as yarn, embroidery floss or cotton thread. Because of their delicate nature, machine-washing is not suitable for cleaning and a more gentle approach is needed. Chances are you already have all the supplies you need to clean a friendship bracelet. If not, you can easily find and purchase them from a supermarket or discount store.

Fill a bowl with lukewarm tap water. Mix a teaspoon of gentle soap with the water until it is dissolved.

Place the friendship bracelet in the water and let the solution soak into the bracelet for one minute. Gently rub the bracelet while it is in the water to remove any tough stains. Remove the bracelet and rinse under a tap to remove any remaining detergent solution.

Spot clean your friendship bracelet if you prefer not to soak it. Lay the bracelet flat on a tea towel. Dip a cotton swab in the detergent solution. Gently rub the problem area with the cotton swab. Dip the other end of the cotton swab in water and dab the area again. Repeat this process until the stain is removed.

Let the friendship bracelet air-dry before wearing.
