Tootsie Pops are a lollipop with a chewy chocolate center. These candy treats have been on the market for over three quarters of a century and enjoyed by numerous generations. The Tootsie Pop has been the subject of numerous commercials in which individuals try to find out how many licks it takes to get to the center of this candy treat. The answer has never been officially revealed.
Tootsie Pops only have five original flavors. These original flavors are chocolate flavor, cherry flavor, raspberry flavor, orange flavor, and grape flavor. Each of these original flavors have a center of a traditional chocolate tootsie pop center. The flavor of the center does not change; only the flavor of the outside candy coating changes.
Tootsie Pop has rotated different flavors at various times as a sixth flavor in the manufacturing process. This flavor is in addition to the standard five flavors available. There are only three flavors in rotation as the sixth flavor. Those flavors are lemon-lime, blue raspberry and watermelon. Once again, each of these has the traditional chocolate flavored tootsie center.
Tootsie Roll Industries, Inc. was formed in the United States in 1896 by Leo Hirshfield. The tootsie candy was named after Mr. Hirsfield's daughter, whose name was Tootsie. The Tootsie Pop itself was first produced in 1931. This was nine years after the company registered with the New York Stock Exchange.
